Croteam

Description
Croteam is a label of ABEST d.o.o.. It was initially started as a "garage game development" in 1992 in Zagreb, Croatia. From then on it has been continually involved in game development.
Between 1993 and 1995 Croteam developed three games for different game platforms: Football Glory (PC, Amiga), 5-A-Side Soccer (Amiga) and Save the Earth (Amiga 4000). With the release of Football Glory, Croteam made a strong presence in the European market (mainly UK and Germany). In 1995 Croteam started to develop exclusively for the PC platform.
In 2001 Croteam finished two products: Serious Sam (a first-person shooter) and the Serious Engine (3D engine powering Serious Sam with Serious Tools: the Serious Editor and Serious Modeler). Serious Sam and the Serious Engine are two products that helped Croteam in establishing a presence in worldwide markets and creating different relationships with developers and publishers alike.
In mid 2003, Croteam started development on Serious Sam II, which used their latest game engine at the time: Serious Engine 2. It allowed support for advanced refraction effects, high-resolution textures, high-dynamic range lighting, and light bloom effects. It was released in October 2005.
Two years later development officially started on Serious Sam 3: BFE. In late 2009 and early 2010, HD remakes of The First Encounter and The Second Encounter were released via Steam, running on the superior Serious Engine 3, with updated models, textures, and 16-player co-op. Devolver Digital started a humorous advertisement campaign to promote their releases.
In 2015, they founded an internal division named Croteam Incubator which produces and develops small-sized games. In 2020, they were acquired by Devolver Digital.
