About

Fall Damage was a Swedish video game development studio based in Stockholm, Sweden. The company was founded in 2016 by DICE veterans Anders Gyllenberg, Mikael Kalms, Markus Nyström, and Dan Vaderlind, whose prior work included major titles such as Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Star Wars: Battlefront.

Fall Damage released its first game Batalj in 2019, but became best known for developing Alara Prime, a tactical, free-to-play four-versus-four multiplayer first-person shooter that aimed to deliver competitive gameplay within a grounded, strategic framework.

In October 2023, Fragbite Group AB, a Swedish gaming and eSports company acquired 100% of Fall Damage from its founders and other shareholders in a deal valued at approximately SEK 420 million. The acquisition included an initial payment of SEK 20 million and an earn-out of up to SEK 400 million, based on the studio’s performance between 2024 and 2027. Following the acquisition, Fall Damage continued development of ALARA Prime under Fragbite’s ownership, with the founding team remaining in leadership roles.

However, in May 2024, just seven months after the acquisition, Fragbite Group announced it would file for bankruptcy for Fall Damage AB. The decision followed difficulties in securing a publishing partner for Alara Prima, which led to an unsustainable financial situation. Despite progress in development and ongoing discussions with potential publishers, Fragbite's board concluded that the studio would not be able to meet its financial obligations.

There were close ties with the Swedish studio Walker Labs. Several developers moved from Fall Damage to Walker Labs at some point, but all working on Alara Prime. At the time of its closure, Fall Damage employed between 50 and 200 people.
