Description

Harmonix Music Systems is a company founded by Alex Rigopulos (CEO) and Eran Egozy (CTO) in 1995.

It is best known for establishing different music game franchises, such as Karaoke Revolution for Konami, Guitar Hero for RedOctane and later Activision, and Rock Band for MTV Games.

The company was acquired by MTV Networks in September 2006, but after a sharp decline in the sales of music games parent company Viacom announced in its nine-month fiscal 2010 results released in November 2010 its intention to sell the studio, reclassifying it as a discontinued operation. At that time the studio had just completed work on Dance Central, a launch game for Microsoft's Kinect peripheral.

On 23rd December it was announced that Harmonix largely regained its independent status as it was sold to Harmonix-SBE Holdings LLC, an affiliate of Columbus Nova, LLC. In February 2011 it was reported 12 to 15% of the staff had been let go because of the restructuring.

On 23rd November 2021, the company announced its acquisition by Epic Games, Inc.
