Description

Kalypso Media is a publishing house established on 8 September 2006 in Worms, Germany by Simon Hellwig and Stefan Marcinek.

In July 2007, the subsidiary Kalypso Media UK was opened in Bracknell, UK, led by Andrew Johnson and Charlie Barrett.

On 14 November 2008, the company announced the formation of its own development studio, Realmforge Studios. Kalypso Media funded most of the company and is also the majority shareholder. It consists entirely of the Boxed Dreams development team. On the same day, the company purchased the worldwide rights to the Tropico brand from Take-Two Interactive Software.

In June 2009, Kalypso Media acquired the majority of the licenses and assets of Ascaron Entertainment after that company entered insolvency. Among the games titles acquired were Port Royale, Darkstar One, Anstoss (On the Ball), The Patrician and Tortuga, with only Sacred ending up with Koch Media. On 18 June 2009, it was announced that Kalypso had established Gaming Minds Studios comprised of former Ascaron employees.

In autumn 2010, the company established Noumena Studios (later renamed to Skilltree Studios) to employ developers from Silver Style Entertainment. The studio would close in March 2016.

The Kasedo Games label was established in 2014 for indie games published by the company.

The company has also owned assets of Pyro Studios since 2018. The Claymore Game Studios subsidiary was founded in 2020 to develop new games in Pyro's Commandos series.

In autumn 2020, the company opened Kalypso Media Japan, led by Kazuhiro Ueda.
