Main Street Publishing was founded by Gerald VanDiver (also the author of the first Apple Books ( VanLoves) and first database on disk for apple) and also the co-founder of the successful company SSI/ Software Strategies Inc. along with Steve Van Houten.

Main Street was one of the first successful low-cost software house targets mass merchandise retail channels.

Frogger, PacMan as well as many other games that were re-issued. The business model was the same as K-Tel records for releasing hit singles on one record. Main Street had 3 hits for $10 on one disk. They were the first to bring Apple and Windows low cost software to the market. In the mid-80's there was a flourish of companies producing low at $10 and under software for the mass merchant markets. Main Street software was sold in Sears, Target, Kmart, Walgreens, BDaltons, Waldens and many other stores.
