Norrell Data Systems

About

A small company based in Los Angeles, founded in 1982 and specializing in software for the IBM PC. It was one of the first companies to sell software for the IBM PC, mainly notable for their utilities like the Norell LISP/88 language, their Norell C/86 C compiler, and their Pack & Crypt compression and encryption utility which became the standard compression utility in the early days of the PC. They also published a few games, including The Software Toolworks' Colossal Cave Adventure version originally endorsed by Crowther and Woods, as well as the Temple Software adventures adventures by Dian Crayne.

The company closed down in late 1986 or early 1987, after the shareware revolution made its business model for small utilities unviable.
