People Can Fly is a development studio founded in February 2002 and located in Warsaw, Poland. The company is known for the Painkiller franchise but also collaborated with Epic Games, Inc. on the PC version of Gears of War. On 20th August 2007 Epic announced to have obtained a majority interest in the company.
For Epic, People Can Fly assisted with the design of multiplayer maps for Gears of War 2. In February 2011, Bulletstorm was released, an entirely new first-person shooter franchise. Immediately following the release the team started working on the sequel Bulletstorm 2, but Epic eventually decided the studio should work on another project, putting the sequel on hold. In May 2012, it was revealed the team is working on Gears of War: Judgment, a prequel to the first game in the Gears of War series. It was released in March 2013.
On 13 August 2012, Epic Games announced to have acquired the company. Just the day before Epic confirmed that founder and creative director Adrian Chmielarz left the company, along with lead artist Andrzej Poznanski and principal artist Michal Kosieradzki. The company was renamed Epic Games Poland on 1 November 2013. On 24 June 2015, the studio announced the return to an independent studio as People Can Fly.
