Description

Silicon Knights, Inc. was founded in 1992 in Ontario, Canada, by Denis Dyack. In 1998, they were signed by Nintendo as a second-party developer. They created two games for them and ended the contract in 2004. They partnered with Microsoft Game Studios in 2005 to develop the Too Human trilogy of games. Nintendo still held stock in the company.

From 2007 to 2012, the company was involved in a legal battle with Epic Games, with Silicon Knights claiming they withheld features and documentation of Unreal Engine 3 from licensees so that Epic could focus on their own games while gaining income from external licenses. Epic Games quickly countersued Silicon Knights for attempts at making changes to the engine and presented it as their own, contrary to the license agreement. Epic would ultimately win the case, and Silicon Knights would have to pay US$ 4.45 million. On 16 May 2014, the company filed for bankruptcy.
