Description

Thalamus was the software publishing label of Newsfield, which published gaming magazines such as Zzap!64, CRASH and Amtix!.

Initial releases were all for the Commodore 64, with the first 3 titles all being the work of Finnish programmer Stavros Fasoulas. When Fasoulas had to return to his home country for national service new talent was needed so Martin Walker, who had already produced successful games for other publishers, was recruited.

Later releases were by Dutch group The Boys Without Brains and the Rowlands brothers (Apex Computer Productions) amongst others.

A small number of titles was released for the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. Some 16-bit titles were also published, mostly for the Amiga.

By 1991 the parent company Newsfield was in serious financial trouble and their magazine division was closed over the next few years. By 1993 Thalamus was no longer viable and it folded.

The company was eventually revived as Thalamus Digital.
