Longtail Studios was originally established in 2003 by Gerard Guillemot and was incorporated as Longtail Studios Québec (Les Studios Longtail Québec Inc. in French) in 2007.
The acquisition by Ubisoft was announced on 13 October 2015. Longtail previously worked with Ubisoft on several titles and was through the acquisition turned into a AAA developer for mobile games. It was merged into the legal entity Ubisoft Entertainment Inc. (Ubisoft Divertissements Inc. in French) which houses all Ubisoft divisions in Québec including Ubisoft Montréal. Since then it operates as the development division Ubisoft Halifax.
