Astro Bot: Rescue Mission

Description
Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is a single-player 3D platform game designed for virtual reality. The story begins when a mothership carrying Astro Bots is attacked, scattering the small robots across multiple themed worlds. The player takes the role of a hovering VR presence who assists a tiny robot captain named Astro. Together, they must travel across varied levels to find and rescue the stranded crew while confronting mechanical enemies and environmental hazards. The objective is to locate every lost Astro Bot and reassemble the team.
Core gameplay follows the structure of traditional platformers with a focus on exploration and precision jumping. The player directly controls Astro using a gamepad, navigating platforms, climbing surfaces, and defeating robotic enemies. Attacks are performed through basic punches and kicks, with additional abilities unlocked as levels progress. Each stage contains hidden rescue Bots, encouraging thorough searching beyond the main path.
The VR perspective adds unique mechanics. The player’s viewpoint is fixed to the controller’s camera, which follows Astro from behind and above. Certain obstacles require the player to move their head or body to look around corners, aim projectiles, or spot hidden paths. Some enemies attack directly toward the camera, requiring physical dodges from the player. This integration of head-tracking with platforming differentiates the experience from non-VR platform games.
Progression is based on completing levels, rescuing Bots, and defeating bosses. Each world culminates in a large-scale encounter that tests both combat skills and spatial awareness. Defeated bosses return more missing crew members, and collecting enough rescued Bots unlocks access to later stages. Replay value comes from revisiting completed levels to find hidden characters missed during the first run.
The DualShock 4 controller becomes an in-game gadget, projecting items such as grappling hooks, water cannons, or shurikens that Astro can interact with. These mechanics introduce puzzle-solving elements, requiring both the VR player and Astro to cooperate.
