A newly-crowned prince wants to expand and become king. To do this, he must defend his vassals, expand their hamlets, villages and cities and introduce new technology.
Be a King is a managerial game. At each level, the player has certain goals he must complete. A priority is to build houses, farms and barracks, so the subjects will have living space, food and defense. These items can be upgraded to increase their capacity. If there is a lack in the people to build, workers can be hired. When short of material, wood and stone can be purchased.
Periodically, a game event will appear. These events can be the town wanting a fair that will attract new people, a guild wanting to establish that will make buying supplies cheaper or speed up building, etc. An event may be a request to search some ruins or slay a dragon or troll. For these, a hero must be attracted or hired. These events may lead to gold, people joining the player, failure with no new people, or the hero's death. The outcomes are random.
