Brainscape! An Adventure in Neuroanatomy

Game cover: Brainscape! An Adventure in Neuroanatomy

Description

Brainscape!: An Adventure in Neuroanatomy is an educational text adventure designed for students of neuroanatomy. The player takes on the role of a student who, after an intense night of studying, awakens in an unfamiliar setting. There, they encounter a character inspired by René Descartes, who sends them on a journey through various regions of the brain.

In keeping with traditional text adventure mechanics, players explore different screens, collect items, and solve puzzles. However, instead of navigating using cardinal directions like "north" or "south," movement is based on six anatomical directions - such as "rostral," "dorsal," and "ventral" - reflecting the game's neuroanatomical theme.

The main objective is to locate five neurotransmitters and find a safe exit from the brain. Optional treasures can be collected to increase the score. At various points, players are challenged with trivia questions related to neuroanatomy. These questions are contextually tied to the current brain region and can be answered by closely examining the environment. Interaction is handled through a two-word parser. It is possible to die, for example by running into a hostile brain inhabitant or by answering two questions wrong in a row, and run out of inventory space
