Checkers in Tan Tan Tanuki

Checkers in Tan Tan Tanuki is an action game based on the 1984 movie of the same name. The story is that the Japanese pop-rock band The Checkers are busy doing a concert in the east today and tomorrow in the west. With their pet tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog) sleeping they drive off in a minibus, but then the bus gets a flat tire. A female fan has spotted the Checkers from a house and is now coming to chase after them, so the band members scatter around 16 stages. Now it's up to the lead singer Fumiya Fujii to lay a trail of music notes on the ground to wake up the tanuki (he can't go through the notes), catch up with the members to collect a letter to spell out the word before time runs out to move on to the next stage. Along the way, there are eight items (Fish, Bird, Statue, Butterfly, Bicycle, Girl, Cow, and Bun) that will give him a 1up. Then in stage 8 and so on, a skeleton can be seen wiping away music notes to mess the song up. If he gets caught by the enemies or the timer reaches 0, he'll lose a life. After clearing all the stages, he is congratulated for getting all the members together and gets to do the stages all over again on a harder level. The game ends once all of Fumiya's lives are gone.
