CI Charlies II

Game cover: CI Charlies II

Description

CI Charlies II is a direct sequel to CI Charlies and retains the same side-scrolling platform shooter action as the first game. The story continues right from the previous game, where anti-terrorism agents Jim Nasium (the player) and Nita Haircut have stolen the diary of Boris Noggin, the leader of a terrorist group called the Red Hand. The game includes new features such as a branching mission structure, weapon ammo counter and reloading game mechanic, first-person sniper sequences, and a save file system. Locations include military bases, a bioweapons facility, a space shuttle launch site, and a space station.

Different from the first game where missions could be played in any order, CI Charlies II has a mostly-linear campaign where some stages are mutually exclusive depending on the player's selection of missions and actions during the game. For example, failing to protect a teammate in one level will result in an extra unique level later on. Due to this, it is necessary to replay some missions in order to see all the content available, but this is aided by the inclusion of a manual save feature between levels.

As with the previous entry in the series, the gameplay mostly involves the player shooting horizontally at enemies while jumping and ducking to avoid obstacles, traps, and gunfire. The player's weapons now have a limited amount of ammunition and must be reloaded manually, but some levels will have ammo laying around to be picked up. A new danger has been added in the form of an enemy turret that is triggered by a motion sensor, which can be jumped over or sometimes disabled. There are a few stages with unique gameplay, such as shooting a sniper rifle from a first-person perspective, or driving a van from a top-down view.
