Connect 4

Description

Connect 4 is an adaptation of the connection board game with the same name. The goal is to place at least four checkers in a row, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. The CPU and the player take turns dropping one colored disc each in the 6 x 7 grid. Since this is a game for two, the CPU opponent will try to interfere and ruin the player's combinations, while at the same time aiming to win with its own.

There are four modes: Connect 4, Power Chips, Connect 4x4 and Ultimate Duel. Connect 4 is available to everyone and uses the original rules of the board game. The first to make a combination of four discs in a row wins the round. The player can specify how many rounds a match has before the start of the game. Power Chips can be played only by Pogo.com registered users and introduces power-ups. Every turn, the player can choose to drop one of two checkers (they may be different, e.g. a regular checker and a power-up). Every combination of four or more same-colored checkers adds the respective number of points to the overall score, and after that they are removed from the grid. The winner is the one who reaches a set amount of points first or has the most points before the timer runs out, depending on the selected options. There are five different power-ups:

  • 2x - Doubles the score of the connection it is part of.
  • Heavy - Removes all of the checkers beneath it, except other Heavy power-ups.
  • Newton - Removes the column's lowest checker.
  • Block - The opponent can't place a checker in the same column for one turn.
  • Explosive - Obliterates all adjacent checkers.

The Connect 4x4 and Ultimate Duel modes are exclusively for Club Pogo members. In Connect 4x4 the board is dual-layered, and a connection of four checkers in a row can be made on a single layer, or on both. There are three different types of checkers: the solid ones are placed in the back layer, the ringed belong to the front layer, while the blockers occupy both layers. Ultimate Duel is almost identical to Connect 4x4; the only difference is that the player and the CPU opponent control two colors each.
