Country of the Week
Description
Country of the Week is a regular The New York Times feature where readers are asked a series of questions about different countries, including whether they can find said country on a map. The quizzes are published in collaboration with The Learning Network, and the primary audience is students. As such, a new quiz is published every week during the school year, many tied into current news or travel stories published in the New York Times. Over 150 countries have been covered by the quiz, and the quizzes are freely accessible to educators.
Each installment consists of five questions, starting with the map question. After the reader answers a question, the quiz talks about that subject in more detail, drawing on the New York Times article archive. At the end of the quiz the reader is scored, and shown a link to more news coverage about that country.
