Cyber Soldier Sharaku

Description

31 years ago, the Galactic Federation put an end to a long and brutal war with the help of the cyber soldiers it created. After the war, as these artificial warriors began developing free will, the Federation disposed of them by implanting them with new memories and assigning them to the elite Fire Claw peacekeeping corps. When a small group of Fire Claw soldiers lead by the powerful warrior Caesar breaks off, the Galactic Federation sends their own soldier, Sharaku, after them. His mission: rendezvous with undercover agent Naigan, track down Caesar and his two lieutenants, and put a stop to their plan. This mission takes him to an underdeveloped planet known as Earth, where Caesar and his lieutenants have disguised themselves as normal residents of Edo-period Japan, and so Sharaku himself must go undercover as an ukiyo-e artist in order to evade suspicion.

Cyber Soldier Sharaku is a hybrid of interactive movie and first-person adventure. While it features the long cutscenes typical of the interactive movie genre, with highly advanced 2D animation for the hardware, it also includes extensive first-person adventure sequences in which the player is able to navigate between scenes with a mouse cursor and click on people and objects in order to interact. These scenes don't feature puzzles, and are more focused on the player's interactions with the world than with problem-solving. There are also several combat scenes featuring Caesar and his allies, and these are fought using QTEs where the player must pick the right action within a time limit. There are no game over screens and the player is free to try again if they fail.
