Dave the Diver

Dave the Diver is a single-player action and management simulation game. The story follows Dave, an easygoing diver who becomes involved in an unusual business venture at a mysterious location known as the Blue Hole. By day, Dave explores its shifting underwater ecosystem, searching for fish, artifacts, and resources. By night, he helps run a sushi restaurant that depends on his daily catches, tying his role as diver and provider together into one ongoing routine.

Gameplay alternates between two main activities: underwater exploration and restaurant management. During the day, players guide Dave through procedurally changing underwater zones filled with varied marine life and hazards. Oxygen serves as the primary limit on how long each dive lasts, with air tanks functioning as both life support and a health system. Weapons such as harpoons and firearms are used to hunt fish, while careful resource management is required to gather materials and still return safely to the surface.

Combat against aggressive sea creatures and bosses emphasizes timing and positioning. Weapons and gear can be upgraded by investing resources found during dives, including crafting parts that enhance performance. Oxygen depletion or sustaining too much damage ends a dive, with only part of the collected loot retained. Exploration is further shaped by environmental hazards such as strong currents, deep-sea predators, and limited visibility.

At night, the focus shifts to running a sushi restaurant. The fish Dave catches are prepared and served to customers, with menu planning and inventory management directly affecting profits. Players must balance hiring and training staff, upgrading facilities, and efficiently serving customers during timed sequences. Restaurant operations provide the funds necessary to expand diving gear, creating a loop between underwater risk-taking and nightly business management. Restaurant management gradually scales up, with new recipes, ingredients, and upgrades unlocking as the business grows. Balancing staff skills, customer demand, and available resources becomes increasingly complex as the game progresses. Events and challenges keep the nightly cycle varied, testing both speed and planning.
