Derby Day

Description
Derby Day is a casual family horse racing game for up to four players.
The DVD game contains eight simulated horse races. The game does nothing other than show the horse races so one player has to take the role of bookmaker. The bookie gives every player 100,000 in starting money, takes the bets before each race and pays out any cash when the race is over. Betting in this game is simplified, players can bet on a horse to win or to place -i.e. finish second or third. If a horse comes last anyone who bet on that horse gets their money back. Players can bet on up to three horses in a race.
Though the races are fully voiced with an enthusiastic Australian commentator the DVD itself has neither instructions not a tutorial so before the game can start each player must read the rules or have the rules explained to them by someone who has read the instructions.
Once past the title screen the game immediately starts showing the horses in the paddock in the pre-race parade with the commentator introducing each one and giving the betting odds. When all the horses have been introduced the game pauses giving the players time to place their bets, when all transactions have been completed a player presses START on the remote controller and the race begins. Each race takes about a minute to run.
After the race the game displays the names and odds of the horses placed first, second, third and last and it stays on this screen giving the bookmaker time to settle up.
The game continues through eight races and the player with the most money wins
