Dong Dong Never Die
Description
Dong Dong Never Die is a Chinese independently-developed 2D fighting game with a highly comedic tone. Players can choose from a roster of 24 characters, each with their own unique fighting styles and special moves.
The story of the game parodies Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In the future, Skynet sends an advanced terminator named Sheng Hua Nan back to 2009 to kill the leader of the human resistance, Dong Dong, before he can become a threat to its plans. However, the future Dong Dong becomes aware of Skynet's plans and sends a terminator that he has reprogrammed himself back into the past to protect his younger self. The two terminators arrive in mainland China in 2009 in the middle of a grand fighting tournament, where Sheng Hua Nan begins attacking the other participants to lure Dong Dong out.
The game features a single player story mode as well as a local multiplayer mode which allows two players to compete against one another. The cast consists of both original characters that were inspired by inside jokes between the developers as well as characters from other works of fiction, such as Sun Wukong from Journey to the West and Mario from the Super Mario series. Most of the game's character sprites were created by taking hundreds of photographs of the developers or their friends in costumes and stitching them together.
