Doraon Yeongung Hong Gildong

Doraon Yeongung Hong Gildong is a platform game based on a Korean animated movie of the same name released shortly beforehand in the same year. The movie is in turn based on a classic novel from the Joseon dynasty era. The protagonist is a young man who has suffered much injustice and decides to become a noble robber, protector of the poor and wrath of the powerful.

The player navigates Hong Gildong through side-scrolling platforming stages, some of which offer shortcuts and secret areas with power-ups. The hero fights regular enemies and bosses with his sword, and also has access to a limited supply of projectile attacks. Hong Gildong has a health bar and a number of "lives" which is reduced by one every time his health bar is depleted. Animated scenes from the movie (albeit in a lower resolution) advance the story.
