Duchess

Duchess is a chess program. It runs on an IBM 370/168. The AI uses iterative deepening and searches roughly 200,000 nodes every three minutes. It knows 3,000 opening positions to get a game started after which the AI takes over. The game managed to reach the second place at the 1977 World Computer Chess Championship.
