Eastside Hockey Manager marks Sports Interactive's surprising return to the series after the 2007 game NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007.
Other than having updated rosters and team information for the 2015/16 season, the game features an updated interface, 30 domestic leagues and cups, 13 international competitions, support for 30-player multiplayer mode, improved trade negotiations, improved player progression and aging mechanics, role-based attribute modeling, ability to start the game with a fantasy draft, Steam Workshop integration and the ability to import fan-made databases, even those from earlier EHM titles. Matches are once again displayed in 2D mode like before, with improved physics involving deflections and shot blocking.
