Elite Beat Agents

Description
Elite Beat Agents is a single-player and multiplayer rhythm game where players guide a team of secret agents who solve everyday problems through the power of music and dance. The Agents are dispatched to assist people in distress, from a babysitter trying to handle mischievous children to a down-on-his-luck artist struggling for inspiration, with each mission told as a short, often comedic story. The game is considered a spiritual successor to Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!, a Japan-only rhythm title with a similar structure but different music and storylines.
Gameplay is built around stylus-based controls on the Nintendo DS. Players must tap numbered circles in time with the music as shrinking rings close in, ensuring precise timing. Some sequences require dragging a glowing ball along a path across the screen, while others present spinning discs that must be rotated quickly to complete a section. Scoring is based on accuracy, with higher ranks unlocking better outcomes in each story and advancing the overall mission.
The game features 19 licensed songs spanning pop, rock, and dance music, each tied to a specific scenario. Tracks include Madonna’s Material Girl, Jamiroquai’s Canned Heat, Ashlee Simpson’s La La, and Hoobastank’s Without a Fight. Every stage unfolds in a comic book–style presentation, with animated panels that change depending on player performance, showing either success or failure for the characters involved.
Progression is tied to ranking systems and difficulty modes. Higher difficulty levels introduce more complex beat patterns, faster tempos, and additional input types that challenge the player’s rhythm and precision. Clearing songs with high scores can unlock bonus content and expand the available track list.
In addition to the single-player campaign, Elite Beat Agents includes competitive and cooperative multiplayer through both single-card and multi-card wireless play. Players can attempt to outperform each other’s scores or work together to clear tracks, extending the replay value beyond the main missions.
