Final Fantasy XIV Online: Dawntrail

Dawntrail is the fifth expansion to Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn, and comprises the game's 7.x patch series. Gulool Ja Ja, leader of the far-off nation of Tulliyolal, has chosen to abdicate the throne in his old age, and is holding a rite of succession to determine the country's new ruler. His daughter Wuk Lamat fears for the future of the nation if her warmongering eldest brother is to claim the throne, but doubts her ability to compete against him on even footing; thus she seeks the help of the Warrior of Light, Krile Baldesion, the Leveilleur twins, and her childhood friend Erenville. The rite of succession will send the party across the breadth of the continent of Tural, where they must engage with its myriad cultures, dive into its history, and compete in seven trials to prove Wuk Lamat's worth as the next Dawnservant. Intertwined with the rite is the legend of a City of Gold, said to be the final destination for the contest's victor.

In addition to its new story content, Dawntrail's initial release increased the level cap to 100 and added two new combat jobs, the speedy, melee-focused Viper and the powerful caster Pictomancer. Patch 7.0 also debuted a major graphical update for the entire game, bringing the quality and complexity of visuals up to par with other modern releases. This included a major rewrite of the lighting engine to allow for more realistic effects, and reworked models for all playable races. In addition, female Hrothgar became playable for the first time.

Other major content additions for the 7.x series include the Arcadion, an 8-player raid series in which players compete in a wrestling-inspired tournament called the Ascension Arcadia Championship; Echoes of Vana'diel, a 24-player raid series based on the setting of Final Fantasy XI Online; Cosmic Exploration, in which crafter and gatherer classes work together to explore as-yet uncharted planets; and the Occult Crescent, a series of open world instances for up to 72 players to explore at once.
