Final Frontier

Final Frontier is a 1-player strategy game for the TRS-80 CoCo.

You have been chosen as commander in a struggle to gain control of an unexplored section of the galaxy. Your foe: an alien race called Volsung. Here in the distant future, when space travel has become commonplace, on uncharted star systems you hope to find the raw materials which are vital to your industry and construction of a fleet of space craft.

Game play consists of a galaxy of 30 star systems. The player starts in the upper left, while the Volsungs start in the lower right. Each uninhabited planet can consist of 8 types of star systems, where the player can start either an agricultural, energy, mining, or industrial colony. The player can create 4 types of space ships.

Each turn consists of a meteor shower phase, where all ships in an area of the galaxy are wiped out. Total production is displayed, and the player can earn credits which are used to purchase new vessels. Groups of ships can be moved during the movement phase. Each turn, the player can scan surrounding star systems, and systems can be colonized by moving an explorer ship to that location. The player then chooses which type of colony to form, and can only create 1 colony per turn.

Combat occurs by moving two opposing vessels adjacent to each other. Multiple ships can be brought to bear at once.

There are 3 levels of difficulty which determine the number of game play turns. The player receives a game play ranking at the end of all available turns.
