Fire Island
Description
Fire Island is a text adventure for the BBC Micro and Electron.
After talking to an old sea-dog in a dockside tavern, the player hears tales of daring, adventure, and the buried treasure of "Mad Dutch" Mike, the notorious pirate. Although he is obviously drunk, the conviction in his voice makes the player listen when he tells of a far-off island where a fortune in pearls has been hidden.
The player hires a ship and sets sail for the island. Unfortunately, Mike forgot to mention a coral reef that rings the island and the ship runs aground in heavy seas on arrival. Even worse, the island is an active volcano, and it's only a matter of time before it explodes.
The player's goal is to find the treasure, avoid the many dangers on the island, and safely escape before the volcano erupts. All commands are via VERB NOUN entry, and there is a save/restore feature.
