Gettysburg: An Interactive Battle Simulation
Description
The game recreates the Battle of Gettysburg, the pivotal point of the American Civil War. Player takes a role of General Meade or General Lee as the supreme commander against a simulator that takes into account different variables that affect the outcome of a battle - terrain, morale, stamina, ammunition, aim, and more. Historical factors that hindered soldiers in the 1860s, such as poor communication or slow-moving artillery, are also reflected in play.
66 brigades fought for the Union and 52 brigades fought for the Confederacy are present in the game. Player directs the marches, issue orders to cavalry, infantry, and artillery to engage the enemy, entrench in key positions, and bombard strongholds in the real time. Four playing speeds are offered. The speeds correspond to the number of seconds that the battle simulation uses to represent one minute of the actual Battle of Gettysburg. The game's objective is to see if the battle may be fought better than it was in the real life. If player takes the Confederate side, see if Lee can win. If player fights for the Union side, see if Meade can preserve more lives while still holding the position. The performance will be reviewed at the end.
