Grand Prix
Description
Grand Prix is an arcade Formula One racing game inspired by Pole Position and similar racing games. The player drives a car through a pseudo 3D scenery with turns and elevations. The goal of the game is to complete eight laps and win the goal cup before time runs out. After each lap the timer is reset. While driving the racer needs to watch out for bumping into other cars or getting off the road as both slow him down. When driving too fast into an opponent or into a sign next to the road, the car crashes and takes some time to respawn. A part of the track also contains a tunnel. Steering is done through the arrow keys with an alternate keyboard configuration.
Points can be earned for the following actions: every 100 metres (1 point), overtaking a car (5 points) and bonus per remaining second each lap (10 points). The game keeps tracks of the best score. There are four cars to choose from, each with a different colour. Green is slowest and easiest to control, black is fastest and very difficult. The red car is the default Grand Prix car. Small additions to the classic formula include sparks when shifting gears and black smoke clouds after collisions. The cars of opponents can experience these as well.
