HIARCS 1

Description
HIARCS 1 (Higher Intelligence Auto Response Chess System) is a professional chess program which was designed with serious chess players in mind. Since the playing strength can be varied in many ways, it is also useful for chess players of all strengths.
HIARCS 1 was the first commercial release of the HIARCS series and bases on the championship winning program HIARCS, which won the World Amateur Microcomputer Chess Championship in Vancouver, Canada in 1991. The success story also includes winning a gold medal at the 1992 World Computer Chess Olympiad in London. With a playing strength of 1975 Elo points (on 486/33 MHz), HIARCS is one of the most powerful chess programs of of the early 1990s. The program was originally created in 1987 by Mark Uniacke and has undergone 7 years of development.
Compared to many other newer programs, HIARCS 1 only has a two-dimensional board representation. It is controlled either with mouse or keyboard via pull-down menus. Even the chess clock suggested by former world champion Bobby Fischer has been integrated into the program.
