Hoverboard

Hoverboard is the 1,608th installment of the webcomic xkcd, released to celebrate the release of creator Randall Munroe's book Thing Explainer. It's a platformer that starts out with the player character, a basic stick figure, standing on a hoverboard inside a rectangular area populated by platforms and coins. The character can be moved using the arrow keys; double-tapping the "up" key allows the hoverboard to jump higher. A small terminal in the middle allows the player to reset the level with new coins.

There are gaps in the borders of the starting area, allowing the player to leave the platforms and explore the rest of the game. The screen will flash a message in red: "Return to the play area." There are features like trees, hills, mountains, and ocean at the ground level. If the player mashes the "up" key enough they will float up to a drawing of the ship battle from the opening of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, where the Tantive IV is boarded by an Imperial Star Destroyer. The player can then explore the insides of the two ships. The latter vehicle is the largest item on the screen and is where the most coins are located.

The entire board is filled with stick figures and jokes, many of which are references to Star Wars, Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. These jokes are presented as mini-comics with no animation or sound.
