I Am Setsuna

Description
I Am Setsuna is a single-player Japanese-style role-playing game (JRPG). The story takes place in a wintry world threatened by savage monsters. To maintain peace, a ritual requires the sacrifice of a chosen maiden. Players follow Setsuna, a young woman selected for this role, and Endir, a mercenary hired to escort her to the Last Lands where the ceremony must be performed. Along the journey, they gather allies, confront hostile forces, and uncover the truths behind the cycle of sacrifice. The narrative emphasizes themes of duty, loss, and acceptance.
Exploration is handled through towns, dungeons, and overworld maps covered in snow. The player navigates a party of characters, interacting with non-player characters to receive quests, purchase equipment, and advance the story. Enemies appear on-screen, and combat initiates directly upon contact rather than shifting to a separate battle screen. The game uses an Active Time Battle system inspired by classic role-playing games of the 1990s.
In combat, each character’s turn is governed by a gauge that fills in real time. Actions include basic attacks, magic, and special skills called Techs. These abilities can be combined in double or triple Techs if characters act together, producing stronger effects. The player manages magic through a system of Spiritnite, stones that grant skills when equipped. Different combinations of Spiritnite provide opportunities to tailor each character’s role. A special mechanic, Momentum, adds depth to combat. When a character’s gauge is full, they gain Momentum points that can be spent to enhance abilities. Timing attacks with available Momentum points can trigger additional strikes, buffs, or unique effects.
Weapons and talismans can be purchased or found, each granting different stats and Spiritnite slots. Enemies drop items used to exchange for new Spiritnite. Party members grow stronger not only through leveling but also by optimizing Spiritnite setups and gear.
