Inhabited Island: Prisoner of Power

Description

Inhabited Island: Prisoner of Power is a first-person shooter based on the novel Inhabited Island ("Prisoner of Power" in the English translation), written in 1969 by the renowned Soviet science fiction authors, the brothers Arkadi and Boris Strugatsky. The novel follows the adventures of the young astronaut Maxim Kammerer on the planet Saraksh. A member of a nearly perfect society of the Earth in 22nd century, Maxim cannot accept the injustices of the militarized, totalitarian regime in one of the countries on Saraksh, and becomes actively involved in their social struggles. The game is dedicated to one episode from Maxim's tale, where he is taken to a prison camp, working together with the underground resistance members Zef and The Boar.

The game is mission-based, and the plot is entirely linear. Maxim is armed with a universal weapon that has different fire modes, turning into a machine gun, a grenade launcher, a rifle, etc. A major element of the gameplay is deactivation of stationary electronic defense systems, which is usually performed by simple interaction. Missions may include other objectives, but deactivating these devices is normally one of the compulsory primary goals. The stages mostly consist of outdoor areas and contain human enemies, scattered mines that instantly kill the protagonist, and various hazards such as radioactive water. In some areas Maxim can also find and drive a military jeep. Objects such as stones can be picked up and thrown to create diversion. Between the missions Maxim can access the camp store, where he can buy weapon modifications, ammo, and healing items.
