Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 3
Description
Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 3 is the third entry in the Initial D Arcade Stage racing game series. Based on the popular Initial D manga and anime franchise, the game runs on Sega's NAOMI 2 arcade hardware and marks the final title in the series to utilize that system.
The game features a revised handling model that provides more nuanced vehicle control and improved realism, especially in how cars respond to drifting and road surfaces. Two new mountain passes are added: Shomaru Pass and Tsuchisaka, both adapted from Initial D: Special Stage. Additionally, Akina Snow is introduced as a challenging weather-based variant of the Akina course, demanding careful throttle control and precision from players.
Three new rivals—Miki, Ichijo, and Aikawa—are added to the Legend of the Streets story mode. The progression order of opponents is also reshuffled. As in previous entries, the story mode closely follows rival battles from the manga and anime series.
Vehicle selection expanded with the inclusion of four new cars:
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V RS (CP9A)
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI GSR Tommi Makinen Edition (CP9A)
- Mazda RX-8 Type S (SE3P)
- Nissan Skyline 25GT Turbo (ER34)
These additions bring the total number of playable vehicles to over 30, each with distinct handling profiles and upgrade paths. Returning players are able to transfer save data from Initial D and Initial D Arcade Stage Ver. 2, preserving progress and car setups via the magnetic card system.
Multiplayer racing remains a core feature, with head-to-head competitive battles between linked cabinets. The game also continues to support Time Attack and Bunta Challenge modes.
