Jet Fighter

Description

Jet Fighter is an arcade action game combined with flight simulation in which the player pilots a Crusader Jet. He also controls a surface-to-air missile system which is used to protect his own country from enemy attack.

The first part of the game starts with the player in his Crusader Jet and the task is to destroy the enemy fighter. This may be done with the Fighter or using the Ground Based Missile Systems. The Fighter and the Ground Based Systems are linked together so it is possible to control either at any time during this phase of the game. Calling the Ground Based Systems replaces the cockpit controls and allows missiles to be fired at the enemy from the ground. When the ground defenses are in use, the player is unable to control the fighter which will continue at its present velocity until control is regained. Likewise, when in control of the fighter, the player will be unable to employ the Ground Based Systems. The player must also avoid satellites and meteorites coming his way.

The Fighter cockpit shows fuel gauges, radar screen, altitude and speed indicators, temperature gauges and various other instruments. Pressing F1 switches to an overview of the strategic situation on a galactic map. The top of the screen shows the enemy base with the missile silos. The player’s base is at the bottom of the screen. The player's Fighter is shown as a blue triangle and the enemy fighter is shown as a dark blue triangle. Small white dots indicate the missiles that have been fired. A number of meters also indicate the flight altitude of his plane, the enemy plane and indicate the missiles that are speeding through space.

If the enemy craft is successfully destroyed, the player's fighter automatically goes into warp mode and flies to the enemy base. Here the player must attack the enemy base and blow it up. But if the fighter is destroyed, the player must defend his base against enemy attacks.
