Khe Sanh

Description

Khe Sanh is a 1-player wargame for the TI-99/4A set in South Vietnam during the 1968 Tet Offensive.

The elusive North Vietnamese and Viet Cong units, unencumbered by the need to defend military bases, could remain hidden in the jungle until the time to attack was right. The American forces could only conduct often futile searches for the guerillas to try to preempt these tactics. The player is given five platoons of troops and four helicopters to search and destroy two companies of North Vietnamese regulars controlled by the computer. The player must accumulate more points than the computer.

The screen contains a base with four roads leading to it, an airbase, and a Vietnamese village. Vietnamese units are invisible, and travel in a straight line vertically or horizontally across the screen. If these units encounter infrastructure, they destroy it. Trucks will travel down the roads, and if the road is damaged the convoy will wreck. The player must use their platoons and helicopters to repair roads and other destroyed infrastructure. The player can use helicopters to defoliate jungle and spot enemy forces. Platoons can be moved onto Vietnamese forces to destroy them or repair damaged roads and infrastructure.
