Lafayette Escadrille

Lafayette Escadrille is a real time action, simulation and strategy game putting the player in control of World War I biplanes. You can select from 24 different aircraft including the classics such as German Fokker DR-1, French Spad or English Sopwith Camel. A variety of missions can be flown from defensive or offensive patrols, bombing missions, balloon busting and training flights. Mission duration is generally around 20-35 cycles (a cycle is the period it takes for the cursor in the upper right hand corner of the screen to blink on and off once). Using the paper battle map provided aids in course and target finding. The battle map is also simulated on screen with limited graphic and text symbols.

Game play is from a top down perspective with the player controlling the selected plane in X and Y grid. Keyboard entry uses unique keys allows common dogfight maneuvers such as Split-S or Immelmann turns. Each aircraft has differing rates of fuel consumption, ammo and bomb load capacities. After landing back at your aerodrome or crashing a score screen appears. The game has no option for mid-mission or in flight game saves.
