LovePlus
Description
LovePlus is a dating simulation. The game centers on the player's experience as a high school student who forms romantic relationships with one of three female classmates. LovePlus incorporates real-time elements and emphasizes ongoing relationship development over a traditional linear narrative.
Players assume the role of a male second-year high school student who transfers to Towano High School. The player can name the protagonist and select between two masculine first-person pronouns: ore (casual) or boku (polite). The gameplay is divided into two main phases. Initially, players interact with characters through school life activities, including club participation and part-time work. The goal is to develop a bond with one of the three main heroines. After establishing a romantic relationship, the game shifts to a "dating" phase, where players maintain and deepen their chosen relationship through regular interaction.
The game utilizes the Nintendo DS's internal clock and calendar to simulate real-time progression, requiring consistent engagement to sustain the relationship. A variety of mini-games, dialogue options, and scheduling elements allow players to shape interactions and influence character affection.
The unnamed player character is a second-year student recently transferred to Towano High. He joins the tennis club, the library committee, and works part-time at a family restaurant. The character's name and speech style are chosen by the player. In related media, such as the LovePlus Rinko Days manga, his default name is given as Wataru Aikawa.
The three girls are:
Manaka Takane (高嶺 愛花)
Manaka is a second-year student who shares membership in the tennis club with the protagonist. Coming from a wealthy and sheltered background, she has little exposure to everyday teenage experiences. Her perfectionist nature distances her from peers, and she has few friends as a result.
Rinko Kobayakawa (小早川 凛子)
Rinko is a first-year student encountered through the library committee. She is reserved and often isolates herself by listening to music on earphones. Her distant demeanor is influenced by feelings of alienation following her father's remarriage and the resulting blended family. She is interested in punk rock and fighting games. The character is partially inspired by Yuki from Haruki Murakami's novel Dance, Dance, Dance.
Nene Anegasaki (姉ヶ崎 寧々)
Nene is a third-year student and part-time worker at the family restaurant where the protagonist is employed. She is portrayed as mature and dependable, often helping others and acting as a "big sister" figure. She has a mole under her right eye and enjoys domestic activities and horror films. Her character design originally positioned her as a college student, which influenced her final appearance.
