MacAttack

Description
MacAttack is a Tempest-style game released exclusively for the Macintosh. Like Tempest, the player takes control of a ship located at the front of the field of play, defending themself against various creatures and objects emerging from the opposite end. The player defeats these opponents by firing projectiles across the screen while also strafing the front edge of the playing field. Compared to Tempest, the play fields are much simpler in design, forming mostly flat or folded planes of varying shapes (as opposed to the tube-like structures of most levels in Tempest). However, MacAttack does incorporate a number of unique enemies compared to Tempest, and even includes bosses, such as a large spider-like boss creature, that the player can also encounter. The player also moves their ship continuously across the edge of the play field using the mouse, as opposed to between discrete positions as in Tempest.
The "story" of MacAttack (such as it is) explains that the player is defending the "Net" from "viruses", which take a number of forms, each rendered as 3D-style sprites. One of the more common viruses (which also features prominently on the packaging of the game) is something of a cross between "Pac-Man" and a "Chain Chomp", rendered in-game as a sphere with angry eyes and pointed teeth.
