Masters of Constantinople

Description

Following the player's triumph in Battle Castle, they are brought to the heart of European civilization, Constantinople, where the Black Sea meets the Mediterranean. Here the player is to meet with learned masters of six martial disciplines, the Daskalas, and learn from them through conversation. Unfortunately, this opportunity arises on the eve of the Second Ottoman Siege of Constantinople in 1453, and the weight of history is against the Byzantines.

All the same, the lessons are given more urgency while spending a week living confined to a besieged stronghold, investigating case studies of successes and blunders from contemporary empires of the Teutonic Knights in the Baltic, the Mongol Khanates, Persia, the English conquest of Wales, Egypt's Mamluks, and the Frankish Crusader states among others. Depending on players' choices of response over the course of lectures by the Daskalas, they can pass or fail their training (with optional re-play), with every given day requiring a certain number of lessons to have been successfully taught in order to progress following a recap conversation with the head of the Akadimia Gnosci order. Every major character has a different personality, reflecting their disparate backgrounds and stations in life, and players cultivate RPG-like statistics reflecting their relationships with each character.
