Medfly Mania

Description
Medfly Mania is a 1-player strategy game for the Apple II.
Based upon the Mediterranean fruit fly invasion of southern California in the mid 1970s, the player controls insect sprayers as they attempt to quarantine and treat fruit fly expansion from destroying California's crops. Played as a series of turns, the player's goal is to eliminate the infestation over 11 separate sites with differing levels of infestation. The player wins the game by entirely eliminating fruit fly infestation, and loses if all areas reach heavy infestation. There are 10 separate skill levels from 0 - 9 which affect fruit fly reproductions and expansion rate.
Each turn, the player can choose to perform ground spraying in specific zones to lower their fly population, release infertile fruit flies to lower overall fruit fly reproduction rates, or quarantine heavy infestation zones to prevent their spread to adjacent areas. Intermittently, depending on politics and weather conditions, the player can perform aerial spraying which reduces overall fruit fly populations across all areas. Newspaper clippings from The San Jose Quicksilver update the player on fruit fly conditions and the political climate.
