Milestones

Milestones is an adaptation of the card game Mille Bornes. It's for one player who competes against an AI opponent. The game is made up of a number of races, each 700 miles in length, and the aim is to reach the finish line before the opponent. After each race points are earned and the object of the game is to first reach 5000 points.

The player has seven cards and has for each turn three options: playing a card, discarding a card or playing a coup fourré. The chosen card is then removed and another one is given. There are four kinds of cards: distance, problem, fix and power cards. Distance cards are used to drive the amount of miles listed on them but first a roll card must be played to get going. Problem cards are used to stop the opponent's car who has to play the corresponding fix card followed by a roll card to start moving again. For example, the repair card fixes the accident card and the spare tire fixes the flat tire. Power cards when played make the player immune to some of the problem cards. A coup fourré is when the power card is played right after the opponent plays the corresponding problem card.
