Mobil Suit Gundam: Final Shooting

Description

Mobil (sic) Suit Gundam: Final Shooting is an Operation Wolf-style lightgun shooter. It allows one or two players to play through the events of the original 1979 TV series of the Gundam franchise.

The game consists of five stages, depicting various battles from the series, including the opening engagement at the Side 7 space colony, the Operation Odessa campaign and the attack on Jaburo base on Earth, as well as the battles for the Solomon asteroid base and the final confrontation at the A Baoa Qu space fortress. Players control the Gundam and must engage enemy mobile suits, spaceships, tanks and aircraft. Enemy missiles or grenades can be shot to take them out before they cause damage. Stages end with boss fights against larger mobile suits or craft.

The Gundam is equipped with a shield that blocks damage as well as a limited number of bazooka shots that cause great damage over a large area. The shield and bazooka shots can be replenished by shooting at equipment boxes that occasionally appear. They are also automatically replenished mid-stage.

Graphically, the game employs layered sprites for a 3D effect and also features sprite scaling for enemies moving away from or towards the screen. Cutscenes illustrate the storyline between stages, and the game features renditions of many music cues from the TV series.
