My Very First Software

Game cover: My Very First Software

Description

My Very First Software is a video game in three parts for very young children learning how to use a computer for the first time. The software comes in three parts, or separate applications, as well as a demo for the video game adaptation of the book The Escape of Marvin the Ape, by Caralyn and Mark Buehner, also by Vroombooks.

Players will be greeted by Cybee, a flying robot with a penchant for all things outer space. She will guide players through the "activity selectivator", which has four games per app. The first three teach important computer skills, and the fourth reviews new words and terms in a more scholastic setting. In the fourth game of each app, a calmer female voice spells out words like "mouse", "cursor", "double click", "monitor", "keyboard", and "spacebar", followed by a purple cartoon alien character interacting with the computer part, first incorrectly, and then correctly.

In application one, Cybee has games to teach kids how to point with the mouse to reveal images (pointing removes squares covering the image), clicking where the cursor makes sound, and clicking on what object is making sound. In application two, Cybee teaches kids how to double-click and click and drag. In application three, Cybee teaches kids about the keyboard, including pressing random keys to see what happens, using number keys to select music, and painting lines with the arrow keys. The instruction game also teaches about Caps Lock, the spacebar, and the backspace or delete key.
