NCAA Football 06

NCAA Football 06 is a single-player and multiplayer college football simulation game.

The central new feature is Race for the Heisman mode, where the player creates a custom freshman athlete and attempts to build his career into a legendary run that culminates with the Heisman Trophy. Starting with recruitment offers and initial skill ratings, performance on the field affects playing time, team position, and progression through multiple seasons. Success in games, especially against top-ranked opponents, increases visibility, fan support, and the likelihood of winning individual awards.

Traditional modes are also included. Dynasty Mode allows players to take control of a college program for multiple seasons, managing schedules, recruiting new talent, and guiding a team toward conference titles and bowl game appearances. Exhibition play provides quick games without long-term progression, while tournaments and custom seasons let players set up their own competition formats.

On the field, gameplay retains the series’ mix of accessible controls and football depth, with refinements introduced through the new Impact Player system. Designated star athletes on each team can influence momentum by making game-changing plays such as breakaway runs, crushing tackles, or highlight-reel catches. Control options include traditional button inputs as well as analog stick “impact” moves that trigger jukes, stiff-arms, and spins.

Mini-game drills expand training opportunities and can be played separately as skill challenges. Events such as the Oklahoma Drill, Rushing Attack, Option Attack, and Passing Skeleton test specific aspects of offense or defense.

Presentation features contribute to the collegiate atmosphere. ESPN broadcasters Brad Nessler and Kirk Herbstreit provide play-by-play and analysis, while Lee Corso delivers his mascot headgear predictions before kickoff.

Multiplayer options include head-to-head matches on the same console or online, with leaderboards tracking performance.
