News Tower
Description
News Tower is a managerial or tycoon video game where the player is tasked with running a newspaper publishing company in New York City during the 1930s. It is the first published game from the independent Dutch developer Sparrow Night, and was made available with early access on Steam February 13th, 2024.
In News Tower (as of early access in February 2024), the player inherits a publishing company at the brink of bankruptcy from their late father and overworked uncle. Through click-and-drag mechanisms, the player can refurnish their business with employment-specific work stations, various machines, and mood-boosting decor. The player may also work together with the three various factions of the city – the mafia, the upper class, and the mayor – all of which have various tasks available for the player to complete.
The player must hire various types of employees in order to complete the tasks ahead, such as reporters, telegraphers, janitors, storage workers, and lawyers. At the end of each in-game week – Sunday morning – the player must set up the newspaper's layout, which includes news articles finished by their employees the past two in-game weeks. The articles are categorized by content, which might include such as politics, sports, entertainment, and crime. These categories count towards the various tasks imposed by the city factions and neighbourhoods.
