NFL Reading

Game cover: NFL Reading

Description

NFL Reading is an educational game which aims to teach children English language skills. Each play is resolved by solving a language question, e.g. solving a scrambled word, writing down a spoken word or bringing text snippets into the correct order. The goal is of course to answer as many questions as possible so the own team wins the match. The questions are divided into three categories (Spelling, Vocabulary and Reading) and have four difficulty levels. The matches itself are either single or playoffs (a series of six matches).

The team also has a power level for six statistics (three defense and three offense) which can be improved by playing mini games:

  • Running/Run Defense: The player controls an athlete who automatically drives forward on the field with a motorcycle. Obstacles are avoided by moving left and right. The goal is to move as long as possible without crashing.
  • Blocking/Tackling: The player controls an athlete (left and right) who automatically moves forward on the field. The goal is to get close to enemy athletes to attacking them by pressing the space bar.
  • Pass Defense: The player controls two athletes (left and right) which are positioned besides each other in the middle of the screen. The goal is to intercept passes by enemy athletes who are positioned at the top and bottom of the screen.
  • Passing: This is the only mini-game which has a first-person perspective (the others are diagonal-down). The player moves the athlete's hand left or right and has to pass the ball to another player. Unfortunately there are a multitude of moving obstacles on the field which should not be hit.
