North Sea Oil

Game cover: North Sea Oil

Description

North Sea Oil is a strategy game for the Dragon 32/64.

Dragon Delta is a semi-submersible oil rig in the North Sea. The player is the Offshore Installation Manager for the rig, and is responsible for coordinating rig activity to maximize oil production. The player controls a workforce of 200 men, and a weekly budget of $1,000,000. The goal is to drill a total of 100 million dollars of oil from the North Sea.

Each turn begins with allocating the weekly budget to drilling consumables, maintenance spares, food, and charter berths. This gear is loaded into a supply vessel, and player must travel from Aberdeen, Scotland to the Dragon Delta located 260 nautical miles away. The player must control for wind and tides in their navigation. The more attempts it takes to reach the destination, the more supplies that are swept overboard on arrival.

Once supplies are safely aboard the Dragon Delta, workforce must be apportioned to drilling, maintenance and services. The Dragon Delta is then positioned on the North Sea to initiate drilling. A number appears above each location drilled, and the closer to the center of oil that turn, the higher the oil return. The player has several drilling attempts to locate this. At the end of each turn a balance sheet demonstrates current oil production.
