Old School Rally

Description

Old School Rally is an arcade-style rally racing game that emphasizes driving skill, fast-paced gameplay, and high-speed maneuvers. It is designed as a modern homage to late 1990s and early 2000s 3D rally games, particularly those released on the original PlayStation. The game features deliberately retro-inspired visuals, with low-polygon car models, simple environments, and a presentation style that closely resembles classic rally titles of the era. This aesthetic is paired with a soundtrack influenced by late-1990s electronic and breakbeat music.

Gameplay centers on competing in rally stages across multiple locations around the world, including environments inspired by Finland, Kenya, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Tracks span a variety of surfaces such as gravel, tarmac, and snow, and include dynamic weather conditions like rain, fog, and night stages. While surface grip and weather affect handling to a degree, the overall driving model leans toward accessibility and arcade-style responsiveness rather than strict simulation.

There are several game modes. Rally mode serves as the primary progression system, where players complete sets of stages to unlock new vehicles and earn in-game currency. Time Trial mode allows players to set fast lap times and compete on online leaderboards. Versus mode supports split-screen multiplayer or races against AI opponents. The game does not feature officially licensed cars or stages, but its vehicle lineup is clearly inspired by well-known rally cars from different eras.

The car roster consists of over 30 vehicles, each with distinct performance characteristics such as acceleration, top speed, handling, and braking. Players can also unlock additional content, including stages for Time Trials, cosmetic items for a vehicle collection gallery, and achievements. A photo mode is included.
